Installation Test
This is what I wish to accomplish with my installation. Wherein you are able to enter a space/ stairwell/ level/ escalator, but after you pass through you are no longer able to exit to turn around and go another way.

Reflection On ARUP Lecture

The lecture from Steven Bull from ARUP was insightful in the sense that it developed ideas about how interactive research is progressing in the real world. Both Dubai and China have started their own Eco cities in which they have researched transportation and movement through-out the whole city. This seems to completely mirror the fact of how in our current project we are refelecting on the movement through town hall station.

Weird Happening When Moving "Door"
This is what happened when I tried to make a fence a door in my map. Not really relevant but interesting so I thought I would capture it and share.

Realism
Realism and how it relates to my town hall model. With my model I wanted to explore how people flow through the station in accordance to getting from platform to platform and using the stairs. I find the different way people use the stairs within a station at different periods of time interesting. I believe this focus would make me focus on the stairs and escalators being real. The concept I would like explore with my model is the concept of What happens when stairs can't get as easily or at all from point A to point B?
How I would express this in the model would be to insert installations at the head of the stairs or on the stairs. What questions I hope to answer by stimulation as of now would be:
1) What happens to crowd movement if there is a row of people standing at the top of the stairs blocking all but one persons way?
2) What happens if the ticket barriers were placed on the stairs instead of on the concourse?
3) What happens if the stairs were still there but were missing half of the walkway in different patterns all the way up (or down) them?
4) What happens if instead of having an escalator going all the way down to platform 4,5 and 6 you have to take it down to 1,2 and 3 and then switch to another escalator?

Research
On going to town hall we decided the best way to obtain information about it would be to go in a large group and have each and everyone of us working on getting dimensions for geometry, light and sound. Once there we had planned to divide up into smaller groups to tackle different areas of the station. One group on each platform as well as one group on the concourse.
The methods we had decided on originally to gather dimensions through walking along the platforms counting steps and multiplying by the size of our steps. Smaller details we had to measure by eye, as well as try to sneakily measure them as we were being watched completly by CityRail staff.
To record for later observations we had decided to take pictures in order to accurately measure material and light. However, before we had even entered into the station (gone past the barriers) we were called out for taking a picture. From then on we had to sneak pictures in order to not get in trouble anymore. We also found the evacuation plans helpful for were stairs and escalotors end up on platforms but had to distract flag guards from watching us take pictures because they would always seem to hung where the flag guard was standing.
